How do we measure productivity while employees work from home?

Working at home is described as when an employee is given the opportunity to work from any place except the organization he/she is working for. Working at home doesn’t really mean working directly from your house, it is just a general term for employees working for an organization without a need to go to the organization.

Working at home is the best way to enjoy life while working, it is a good way to multitask. People who work at home are called freelancers, they perform their work at any time as far as they meet the deadline of the job. Freelancers are the happiest workers on earth because of the flexibility of their job.

Most of the organizations don’t really like hiring freelancer because they can’t control their work ethics and are not tightly binded to the organization laws. This has proved abortive for them because freelancers are always needed as they can get job done easily. As said earlier that freelancer can work anyhow, this is why companies try to measure their productivity with any means possible.

As an employee working from home you have many advantages over employees working in the organization. You are not limited to the working environment so you are able to get a job done at a faster and more efficient rate. Since you work for not only one company or organization you can earn more money from not only one organization but different organizations unless you are lazy. Also you can submit a job that you have done before for a company to another company and it would be approved without them Knowing. You can also give the job to someone to help you when you don’t know how to go about it or you have other consuming jobs.

These are the reasons why organization are always trying to measure the productivity of employees working at home. The first step organizations take is thorough screening, when a freelancer applies for a job at a company the test given are always hard. This is a good way to check how productive such employee would be as they don’t want any type of person.

Another way, to check productivity is by creating applications that check for dubious jobs and copied work. An example is plagiarism checker that helps to check if the work of a writer is copied or not. This plagiarism checker actually frustrates writers as they can’t copy or quote from an online source without being caught.

Productivity of work at home employees can also be checked by setting targets with a time frame for the worker. Since they can work at anytime of the day which is a disadvantage to the organization, time and target is used so as hasten productivity of the employee. This method has proved to be successful, even freelancers don’t like this method but it is very good.

Checking the productivity of work at home employees is a very hard work for organizations. Even with the rigorous tests, hard tasks with limited amount of time most employees still have a way to outsmart the organization and enjoy their work.
