The Difference Between Copying And Plagiarism

In this ever evolving technologically improved world, it is extremely necessary and important that one gets to have at least one or more sources of information. Before the creation of social media, people really struggled to complete their work or study related assignments due to lack of these said sources. They usually say knowledge is power, without it you can do absolutely nothing right. The current generation is a very lucky one, it has numerous reasons to celebrate because life has been made so much easy right now. People no longer strain while doing their research work because information is readily available to them.

Some sources of information that have

Some sources of information that have greatly contributed to improving our lives in so many ways include the internet, books, magazines, journals as well as articles. So many others have not been listed herein in because the list is endless, but we shall focus on the major ones. These sources have helped out so many professionals, from teachers to lawyers, doctors, accountants as well as the engineers among so many others. The one group of people we cannot afford to forget in this list are the students because they are the majority who rely on these sources.

The main source of information to

The main source of information to some great extent is the internet due to its quick and easy accessibility. To be able to use it you need to be literate enough to understand the information it usually relays otherwise you will end up confused. It has been trusted by so many because it is reliable and it does not provide misleading information to its users. Many people believe that the internet can never be wrong, it is in fact used to clarify so many issues. Books, magazines, journals and articles are also majorly used but not as much as the internet because they consume a lot of time and demand much attention.

The internet for quite sometime now

The internet for quite sometime now has been helping our students, teachers and lectures across the world. Teachers and lectures have been relying on the information being provided by this major source to enlighten their students. Students on the other hand have been using it to answer some difficult questions they usually do daily. No one is all-knowing, only God is, and that is why we as human beings must always refer because we may not always be right. Information keeps on changing due to the daily inventions and that only means the right things today have high chances of becoming the wrong things tomorrow.

The Difference Between Copying And Plagiarism

Copying is the act of retrieving information from a reliable source and using it to do an assignment though one twists the information without changing the initial meaning. Plagiarism on the other hand is the duplicating of information word by word into a job or school related assignment. Many people have been employing these two things in their work since every one wants the best outcomes in life. However, do people know the difference between these two terms to the extent of doing the required thing? Most probably only few percentages can be able to distinguish them since the rate at which people especially students are being accused of plagiarism is so alarming and needs redress.

Just as stated above, copying entails the twisting of words which means one employs the use of synonyms to avoid total duplication. A good illustration will be to use the definition of words to understand better the difference between these two terms. The internet has described an estate to mean all the properties and money that are owned by a person especially at death. When copying such a definition in your work, you will have to play around with those given words as long as you do not interfere with the initial meaning. You can define estate to mean all the properties that one inherits from a deceased person. You can notice that we have not changed the original meaning of the word estate. We have just come up with our way of defining it using the information that we have gained from the internet.

Another significant example we can use is the definition of the word child by reading and analyzing its meaning in accordance with the internet and then translate it using our words. A child is any person who has not yet attained the age of 18 years as provided by the oxford dictionary. While writing it down, we can state that a child is any person who is under the care of either a parent or a guardian. Copying does not therefore encourage the duplication of information into our work but the translation to enhance our understanding.

Plagiarism on the other hand is the direct duplication of words, this means one writes down information from a different source word by word in his or her assignments. Many institutions do not encourage this because it only encourages laziness and lack of creativity. Any person who engages in this act should score low marks because you must rip what you saw and not what someone else struggled to get. To make this concept make even more sense, we will use the illustrations above to better our understanding. Plagiarism is likely to occur when a person instead of twisting the provided words to define it, writes it as it is on the web.

Originality is important if you want to score better grades or have the best outcomes. Always strive to be unique among the rest and come up with solutions rather than being a problem yourself. Take pride in expanding your knowledge and adding it to where you feel it has been insufficiently provided. Moreover, those who commit plagiarism often end up forgetting what they have read which is a disadvantage to them. Imagine a scenario where you have just completed your assignment successfully then either your teacher or boss orders you to simplify the information for him. You then fail to because you cannot remember what you wrote since you only duplicated the information. That will be so embarrassing and will only ruin your reputation and make you look less informed. To avoid such situations, do your work to perfection by referring, understanding, translating it and writing it without duplicating it. Apart from bettering your scores, you will also be enhancing your creativity and expanding your knowledge.
