Writing is a process that requires patience, passion and determination. The purpose for writing is to inform, educate and express ideas, feelings and emotions. Different writers have different styles of writing unique to themselves. Young aspiring authors need to master writing skills to be valuable and for their work to get published.

To perfect writing skills as an upcoming writer, practise is required. Writing regularly equips one with knowledge and skills for sentence construction and paragraph development. Write stories every day. Any story you like, its not necessary for one to write a story to completion. The stories can be stored and used in future to develop a plot.

Get engaged in different writing groups

Extensive reading. Reading through books written by different authors help improve on grammar and learn how stories are structured. Take time to read different genres. Identify how different they are from each other. Through reading, one identifies the genres they are interested in. Visit the library on regular occasions to find out whats new in the market.

Get engaged in different writing groups for authors. Joining a group of authors builds your confidence. Interaction with different writers provides you with an overview of the struggles of different authors. Discussion groups enables one realise their areas of weakness. The group can assign you skilled authors to work with to improve your skills. The group is a platform to read your work and be heard. Group members give you their opinion on your work. It is important to give a 3rd party chance to comment on your work to know your progress.

A successful writer should be your role model. Young writers should have one specific author they admire. Aspiring to become like the author gives you motivation. Indulge yourself in the books the author has published and try writing like them. Do not plagiarise their work, try to immitate their writing style. Write about something you like. Writing about a topic you love most gives you an opportunity to express yourself freely. The writing is natural, from the depth of your heart. Expressing your emotions is easy because you write about what you understand well. Identify your target audience. The main focus should be your audience, the message you want to pass across and the impact of the message to their life. Target audience determines the language and tone used to write.

Writing is a skill and only those with passion can emerge the best. Writing requires concentration, creativity and perseverance. Everyday is a chance for you to learn new things and apply them in real life. Having an open mind speeds up the learning process. To become the best, you have to strive and work hard. Nothing is easy in life and giving up should never be your option. Face your fears and challenges to emerge victorious.

Regular reading, practise, imitating your role model and accepting challenges are key determinants to being good writer. Going a step further creates a big difference in your life. Treat each day with care for it is another opportunity to learn and correct on your past mistakes. Writers learn from mistakes. You cannot learn without accepting them as part of your life.
